Calcite

LBO Nonlinear Optical Crystal.jpg

Calcite crystal is one of the three different mineral form of calcium carbonate and it is also the most stable. It is a negative uniaxial crystal with very high birefringence, wide spectral transmission and moderate refractive index.

Its extreme birefringence gives it both negative and positive relief, based on orientation. Calcite is suitable for polarizers in the VIR range, Glan-Thompson Polarizers and Glan laser polarizers.
