Cr:YAG(Chromium Doped Ytterium Aluminium Garnet) is a non-linear optical material that is ideal for making passive Q-switching Nd:YAG and Yb or Nd doped lasers.. It has excellent optical, mechanical, thermal properties, chemical stability, UV resistance, and high damage threshold. It also can emit high power lasers in the 0.8-1.2µm range.


This allows it to be designed compactly and to be reliable laser sources. To note, its high damage threshold of 500-1000W/cm2. Some of the applications of Cr:YAG crystal includes passive q-switch lasers for laser rangefinders,LIDAR, LIBS system and laser systems where short pulses are desired.
