CdSe(Cadmium Selenide) crystals is a nonlinear optical crystal that has broad tuning range. The output of parametric oscillator in CdSe gives phase matched  9-24µm tuning range. Its crystals has its band edge in the near IR(infrared) and can transmit far into the infrared. They have small walk-off angles and decent nonlinear properties.


Their properties make them suitable to be material for polarizers, IR optics, sources of vacuum deposition, beam splitter and DFM converters. Most importantly, these can crystals can be used for difference frequency generation(DFG), optical parametric oscillation(OPO) to generate infrared laser radiation that is above the ZGP(absorption edge).
